Primary election is next Tuesday

Voters in Greene County and across the state will go to the polls on Tuesday, June 7, for the primary election. Citizens must declare a party, either Democrat or Republican, to cast a ballot.

In Greene County, there are two contests on the Republican ballot. Incumbent District 5 supervisor Guy Richardson is being challenged by Peter Bardole. There is no Democratic candidate.

With sheriff Steve Haupert retiring at the end of the year,deputies Kirk Hammer and Jack Williams are seeking the Republican nomination. The Democrats do not have a candidate for sheriff on the ballot.

Other Republicans on the primary ballot at the local level are Mick Burkett, incumbent supervisor District 1; John Muir, incumbent supervisor District 4 and auditor Jane Heun.

Additional Republicans on the ballot are: U.S. Senator Charles Grassley; U.S. Representative District 4, Rick Bertrand and Steve King, incumbent; state senator District 24 Jerry Behn and state representative District 47 Chip Baltimore.

The only Greene County candidate on the Democratic ticket is Todd Madson for supervisor in District 4.

Democrats will select from this slate: U.S. Senator – Thomas L Fiegen, Robert M Hogg, Patty Judge and Bob Krause; U.S. Representative Kim Weaver; state senator District 24 Keith Puntenney, and state representative District 47, Deb Duncan and George Ensley.

The polls will be open from 7 am to 9 pm. Polling places are:

  • Central – Clover Hall, Greene County Fairgrounds, Jefferson
  • East – St Brigid Parish Center, Grand Junction
  • Jefferson 1 – South assembly room, courthouse, Jefferson
  • Jefferson 2 – Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson (801 W. Lincoln Way)
  • Jefferson 3 – Greene County Community Center, Jefferson
  • North – Churdan Community Center
  • West – “New” Scranton city hall

Absentee ballots may be voted at the Greene County auditor’s office at the courthouse through June 6. The auditor’s office will also be open on Saturday, June 4, from 7 am to 3 pm for absentee voting.
